I had always been the kind of person who Preferred the Sidelines. Being a spectator felt like a nice safe place to be.
Before my husband, Bill White, was elected mayor of Houston, TX, I’d never given a single speech. When asked to say the prayer in my Sunday school class, my heart would start beating wildly.
I had never even put a bumper sticker on my car. I felt like who I voted for was a private matter.
And, while I thought I had a broad network of friends, I didn’t own a sari, or African robe, or Chinese embroidered shirt like I do now. And, I wear them.
Almost six years of being a Political Spouse has pulled me out of myself and helped me grow. Public Speaking, Public Service, Photo Shoots to Practical Shoes round out my learning experiences.
I’m there for Bill more, I’m there for my kids more; I’m there for my friends more; I’m there for myself more.
I’ve created this blog not only to record my own learning experiences as I campaign for Bill in his race for Governor but to explore the role of supporter. Support for loved ones is more than a life Post Script. Plain and Simple, Passionate Support is a gift.
