What does a campaign feel like?

On a return trip from Costa Rica on Continental, I got to watch 2/3’s of Out of Africa.  Denys Fitch-Hatton, Robert Redford, picked up Isak Dinesen, Meryl Streep, in an open air airplane.

“When did you learn to drive it?” Dinesen asked Fitch Hatton.

“Yesterday,” Fitch Hatton said.

They proceeded to sweep over herds of wildebeeste, hippos in a river, and endless plain. A sense of wonder crossing her face, Isak Dinesen reached for Denis Fitch Hatton’s hand.

The pilot’s voice intruded shortly afterward, and I didn’t have to watch the ending. But that moment of the two hands clasped captures the way I feel some times with Bill on the campaign trail.
